SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara's men's swim team is ranked second in the latest Collegeswimming.com Division I Mid-Major poll, which was released this week. The Gauchos garnered 243.23 points and are second behind No. 1 ranked Princeton (251.35 points).
Now in its 10th year, the Mid-Major Rankings serve to provide an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.
The Gauchos are undefeated in dual meets this season with wins over Denver (Oct. 28), UC San Diego (Nov. 4) and Cal Poly (Nov. 5). The men finished second at the Arena Invitational in November and seventh at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational earlier this month.
UCSB will be back in action on Jan. 21 when they host UNLV in a dual meet at Campus Pool. The meet is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
