Silva and David Earn Year-End Honors from

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara men's soccer players Luis Silva and Machael David were named to Teams of the Year, it was recently announced by the website.

Silva, a midfielder and defender was named to the Third Team. The sophomore started 23 of the Gauchos' 24 games this year. He was fourth on the team with 13 points (4 goals, 5 assists) and was tied second on the squad with three game-winning goals. Defensively, he helped the Gauchos to a school and Big West record 16 shutouts. He additionally earned First Team All-Big West honors, the second conference accolade of his career.

David was named to the Freshman Team. The midfielder started 23 games for UCSB and scored on goal and four assists. David also proved to be a solid defender, helping the team contain its opposition to just 18 goals. David was also named the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year.

UCSB ended the 2009 season in the NCAA Tournament Third Round. The Gauchos posted a 17-5-2 overall record, marking the program's best record since the 2006 National Championship season when they went 17-7-1.
