SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara will honor its 2006 NCAA National Champion men's soccer team on Saturday, Dec. 9 in a noon ceremony at Harder Stadium, it was announced Tuesday. The Gauchos claimed the title on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over UCLA.
"We want to invite all members of the UCSB, Santa Barbara and Goleta communities to celebrate with us on Saturday," said Athletics Director Gary Cunningham. "This will be a great opportunity to acknowledge a tremendous achievement for this team, this university and this community."
Head coach Tim Vom Steeg will address the audience, along with selected team members. In addition, Cunningham, UCSB Chancellor Henry T. Yang and Associated Student Body President Jared Goldschen will be the keynote speakers. The event will culminate with Chancellor Yang and Cunningham presenting the National Championship trophy to Vom Steeg and the team.
Following the formal ceremony, the team and coaches will be available for autographs and photographs on the field.
