SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior goalkeeper Kyle Reynish was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending October 29, it was announced today. Reynish, who was also named the Big West Conference Player of the Week, recorded five saves on the way to a fourth-straight shutout in the Gauchos' 1-0 win over rival Cal State Northridge last week.
After UCSB took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute against the Matadors, the Valencia, Calif. native made several critical stops in the second half to preserve the shutout victory. Reynish finished with five saves, including stops in the 54th, 58th, and 69th minutes, respectively.
With the win, Santa Barbara maintained its first place position in the Big West standings with 18 points at 6-2-0. The Gauchos won for the fifth time in the last six matches--all of which were shutouts.
Reynish has started every game between the posts this season and has tallied a career-high 10 shutouts to lead all conference keepers. He also leads the Big West with a .827 save percentage and is second in both goals against average at 0.81 and saves with 67.
This is Reynish's first-career Player of the Week award and marks the second time a Gaucho has received the honor this season. Sophomore forward Nick Perera was named BWC Player of the Week on October 8 after netting a pair of goals to lead UCSB past UC Irvine 2-0. It is also the first time Reynish has been selected to the College Soccer News National Team.
Reynish and the Gauchos wrap up the regular season this week with a showdown at No. 21 UC Irvine Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Santa Barbara can clinch their fourth Big West title in the last six years with a victory over the Anteaters. UCSB will also look to avenge a 1-0 loss when they host UC Riverside Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
