Santa Barbara, Calif. -
For the first time in his career, UC Santa Barbara men's soccer's sophomore goalkeeper Danny Kennedy has been named Big West Player of the Week, it was announced yesterday by the conference. It is the second consecutive week that a Gaucho was the recipient the honor, and the third such recognition for a UCSB player this season.
The 6-1 Kennedy posted two shutouts on the week, combining with freshman keeper Kyle Reynish for his first, a 5-0 blanking of UC Riverside at home, then ending the week by shutting out conference foe Cal State Northridge. The Yorba Linda native made a career-high eight saves in the match against the Matadors, including one in the second sudden-victory overtime period. Kennedy now has four shutouts on the season and eleven in his career.
The 17th-ranked Gauchos, up five spots from last week, travel to Cal Poly for a Big West Conference game this Friday before squaring-off against No. 1 Indiana on Sunday at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Stadium. In Santa Barbara you can catch Sunday's match on KCSB 91.9 FM, or on the internet at www.kcsb.org, kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
