Santa Barbara, Calif. -
UC Santa Barbara men's soccer player Neil Jones has been named the Big West Conference's Co-Player of the Week, becoming the third Gaucho to receive the honor this season, now in its seventh week. Jones scored two goals and added an assist in UCSB's 6-3 win over New Mexico to earn his first career POW accolades.
The senior forward's two-goal performance against UNM was his second multi-goal performance in the past three games as he also netted two in the Gauchos' 3-0 win at Sacramento State on September 28th. Jones' 20 total points paces the UCSB squad that is ranked 14th and 7th in the latest NSCAA and College Soccer News national polls, respectively. His eight goals ties him for the team lead with linemate Drew McAthy, and his four assists are third best on the team to Memo Arzate and David McGill, both of whom amongst the best in the nation.
Jones, who is excelling in his first full season on the Gauchos' forward line, shared this week's award with UC Riverside's Luc Harrington. Harrington, who netted one goal and assisted on the game-winner in UCR's conference win over Cal State Fullerton, and Jones will meet face-to-face this Wednesday, October 15th in a Big West Conference match at 3:00 p.m. in Riverside.
