Sophomore midfielder Danny Barrera has been named UCSBgauchos.com and Golden I Credit Union Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Gauchos to a 3-0 victory over then-ranked No. 9 Indiana on Friday.
In front of a crowd of 10,114 at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium and the Fox Soccer Channel cameras, Barrera scored the game-winning goal in the 39th minute of Friday's game. Michael Tetteh chipped a cross from the left side of the box to Barrera who volleyed the ball into the right corner to give UCSB a 1-0 advantage in the first half.
Later in the game, Barrera assisted Michael Nonni's goal, which gave UCSB a 3-0 lead in the 61st minute of the game.
Barrera was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his stellar play on Friday.
The goal was Barrera's third of the season and his assist was his fifth - which ties his career-high. He is currently second on the team with 11 total points.
UCSB will be back in action on Wednesday as they return to Big West Conference play with a home contest against Cal Poly. Game time is set for 7 pm at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
