Men's Soccer Participates in UCSB's Children's Day
Aug. 31, 2009
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Members of the UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team volunteered at the 6th annual UCSB Children's Day festivities on Friday, August 21 on campus. The effort was part of the Gauchos Give community outreach initiative.
For their part, the men's soccer team led the participating kids in a skills and drills session followed by a quick scrimmage.
The major goals of Children's Day is to introduce the children of faculty, staff and students to the many different aspects of our UCSB community, ranging from academics to athletics and beyond, all the while, showing children that learning, achievement and fun can all go hand-in-hand.
The effort was part of the Gauchos Give community outreach initiative. With the arrival of Mark Massari as Athletics Director in October, UCSB Athletics launched the Gauchos Give community outreach initiative for all 450 athletes and 20 sports. Gaucho athletes give back to their community through free clinics, helping families during the holidays, providing financial and emotional support during tragedies, and touching the lives of youth groups.
