Gauchos Ranked 14th by Soccer Times, 15th by Soccer America

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team has been ranked 14th in the nation by and ranked 15th by Soccer America in a pair of polls released this week.

So far, the Gauchos' highest preseason ranking has been No. 10 by Top Drawer Soccer. They are also ranked 16th by the NSCAA and 19th by College Soccer News. UCSB has also been picked to finish first in the Big West Conference in a preseason coaches' poll.

In the Soccer America poll, UCSB is one of just three west coast schools to be ranked in the top-15 - Cal is ranked seventh and UCLA is ninth - and the only Big West school. Conference foe UC Irvine is ranked just one spot below the Gauchos, coming in at No. 16, and Cal Poly is ranked No. 20. For the complete poll, click here.

The UC Santa Barbara soccer team got the 2009 season rolling last Saturday when they posted a 3-1 exhibition win over Westmont. The Gauchos will officially kick-off the year on Tuesday, Sept. 1 when they host Cal State Bakersfield at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium, all the action will get underway at 7 p.m.

Season tickets for the 2009 men's soccer season are on sale for around five bucks a game.
