SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team is ranked No. 10 in Top Drawer Soccer's 2009 Men's Tournament 48 Ranking it was announced today. The Gauchos were one of only two west coast teams ranked in the poll's top-10.
Top Drawer's poll is a running attempt to project the postseason college soccer NCAA Tournament qualifiers, including every automatic conference berth.
Included in the men's poll were 2009 opponents No. 6 Indiana, No. 31 West Virginia and No. 38 Cal Poly. Cal - which was ranked fourth - was the only other west coast team included in the top-10.
Earlier this summer, College Soccer News ranked UCSB No. 19 in its national preseason poll and yesterday the Big West Conference announced that the Gauchos were picked first in the annual preseason coaches' poll.
The 2009 soccer season kicks-off on Aug. 22 when the Gauchos host Westmont in a scrimmage at 7 p.m. at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
