Avila Scores Equalizer in 2-2 Tie with Columbus Crew

April 13, 2010

FRISCO, Texas - A stoppage-time goal from former Gaucho Erica Avila (2005-07) helped FC Dallas steal a point from the visiting Columbus Crew in a 2-2 tie at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday.

Trailing 2-1, Avila hit a low shot toward the far post that tucked inside the net for the equalizer. The goal was the second of his Major League Soccer career.

Avila's score comes just two weeks after former UCSB teammate Andy Iro (2004-07) scored the game-winner for Columbus Crew in the season-opener against Toronto FC on March 27.

Iro's goal was scored in the 29th minute when Guillermo Barros Schelotto's free kick near the right sideline whipped into the box, where Iro slipped his marker and headed the ball home from seven yards.
