Santa Barbara, Calif. -
It was announced last week that the United States Youth Soccer Association selected UC Santa Barbara assistant men's soccer coach Leo Chappel to assist with its Region IV '87 Boys soccer team. Meaning, Chappel will coach the best youth players (born in 1987 and before) that America has to offer in the western United States. The players he will be coaching comprise the pool of players that US Soccer pulls from for its national team squads.
Also known as ODP, or the Olympic Development Program, Chappel will be working with the US's top players from Wyoming to Hawaii. The Region IV coach staff is comprised of Chappel, Paul Krumpe, the head coach at Loyola Marymount, and Michael Linenberger, the head coach at Sacramento State.
"The chance to work with these young players is a wonderful opportunity," said Chappel, "more importantly, this appointment is a great for the program here at UCSB."
