Santa Barbara, Calif. -
UC Santa Barbara's men's soccer team fell to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday night in a 1-0 overtime match. The Gauchos drop to 6-8 on the season, 1-2 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. The Titans improve to 9-4-1, 3-0-1 in conference action.
The Gauchos got off to a quick start, shooting four of their five shots in the first half of play and limiting the Titans to only six shots in the period. Junior forward Jaime Ambriz led the Gaucho shooters with two shots. However, the Gauchos only took one shot in the second half of play.
The defensive showing by UCSB was strong through out the match. Freshman goalkeeper Erik Stolhandske started the contest, but left at halftime due to illness. Freshman Jeremy Pruzin got the first playing time of his career when he started the second half. He notched two saves in his 56 minutes.
Entering the first overtime period, the Titans had outshot the Gauchos 13-5. Yet, on their 14th shot of the contest, in the 101st minute of play, senior midfielder Art Ramirez headed a pass from Walter Camarago past Pruzin for the only score of the match.
The Gauchos return to action to host UC Irvine in a 6:00 p.m. MPSF matchup on Friday night at Harder Stadium.
