2004: Becerra caught on late for UCSB, playing in 11 of the Gauchos' final 12 matches, and making 14 total appearances on the season...His lone start came in what proved the Big West Conference title deciding game against Cal State Northridge (11/9)...Set up Drew McAthy for the game-winning goal in the Big West title match for his first of three assists on the season...Recorded his second of two game-winning assists on theyear in UCSB's NCAA Sweet 16 overtime win at UNC Greensboro (11/28)...His third assist, which tied him for the fourth most among returnees, came in the National Semifinals against Duke (12/10)...Was fifth overall and second among returning players with a 0.21 assists per game average...Notched 10 shots on the season, firing off a season-high three at Cal State Northridge (10/16)...Although he was credited with an assist, it was one of his two shots against Indiana in the National Championship match (12/12) that set-up McAthy's game-tying goal late in regulation.
Earned NSCAA Junior College All-American honors at Mission College...Becerra netted 34 goals and tallied 19 assists in his two seasons with the Eagles...Guided Mission to a 15-1-5 overall record and No. 17 final NSCAA national ranking in 2003...Helped the Eagles to a Western State Conference Championship in 2003...Losing in the 2003 Junior College State Championships with Mission JC was his most disappointing sporting moment.
Spent two seasons with the Samba U-17's...Tallied 19 goals and 12 assists for Samba in addition to guiding them to a championship at the Oxnard Tournament.
Attended San Fernando High School where he lettered as a freshman and senior...Led the Tigers to a second place finish in league with an overall record of 10-1-2 as a senior...Netted 15 goals as a freshman and 11 as a senior to go along with his six assists...Named All-CIF City Section and league player of the year in 2002...Beccera also wrestled and played football and volleyball for the Tigers.
Jorge Ivan Becerra was born May 22, 1984 in San Luis Potose, Mexico...Is a double major at UCSB in Chicano Studies and Spanish...Aspires to become a professional soccer player...When he isn't playing soccer he is probably playing basketball...Roots for Manchester United and is a fan of David Beckham...His favorite movie is "Radio"...Enjoys watching "The Jerry Springer Show"...Likes to read "Nutrition" magazine...His favorite video game is "FIFA 2004"...Wants people to know that he enjoys helping others and that he works hard for what he wants...Before every match he eats a banana and thinks about the game...Can best be described as an outgoing person...He has two younger sisters...Son of Leonardo Becerra and Erlinda Salas.
What is it that you bring to the UCSB men's soccer program and what would like to help it accomplish?
"My accomplishments for this program would be bringing home that ring that we left at the College cup last year. And not only that, but I want to put everything I have out there being that this is my last year at UCSB in hopes of becoming a professional soccer player."
