The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Soccer team has been widely recognized as one of the top athletic programs in the nation, averaging an incredible attendance rate of 5,783 fans per game in 2010. As part of the Gauchos Give community outreach initiative, the men’s soccer team is always actively giving back to the community that gives them so much.

AYSO Skills Day

The UC Santa Barbara Men's and Women's soccer teams host an annual AYSO soccer clinic in August to support the Santa Barbara soccer community. The event is presented free of charge to all AYSO players, coaches and families that chose to attend. Throughout the day, the UCSB men's and women's soccer players participated in skills training, autograph sessions and face painting with AYSO players. Meanwhile, the UCSB coaches ran coaches clinics.

"The day totally blew away our expectations," said Sean Mason, the Assistant Regional Commissioner of Santa Barbara AYSO. "We knew the players and coaches would have fun and learn new skills, which they did. What we didn't know was how many. We kept our fingers crossed and hoped that at least 300-400 players would show up, but that didn't happen. Instead, we had about 800 AYSO players and 50 coaches, which only proves that Santa Barbara is most definitely Soccer Town USA." Read Full Article

UCSB Community Coaching Program
Local youth soccer teams have the opportunity to have UCSB soccer players come and guest-coach a practice. Through the clinics, which are part of the Gauchos Give community outreach initiative, UCSB's student-athletes donate 150 hours of their time each season to teach youth soccer players in Santa Barbara.

The Gauchos have been running the clinics on Storke Field on the UCSB campus for many years. During the practice sessions, the Gauchos players fill in as coaches for the AYSO teams and run hour-long sessions that included warm-ups, technical drills and scrimmages.  The clinics are a great way for the Santa Barbara community to get together and reach out to local youth soccer players. Learn More
