SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After scoring two goals within minutes to lead the UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team past No. 15 UCLA last Saturday, sophomore forward Rodney Michael continued to reel in honors with a Top Drawer Team of the Week selection announced earlier this week.
The Freetown, Sierra Leone native was also named Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career and is the second Gaucho to be recognized by Top Drawer Soccer after Carter Clemmensen was honored after the opening weekend.
Michael helped UCSB answer back quickly after an early UCLA goal with the equalizer in the 16th minute. Michael fielded a long ball over the top from Axel Mendez, sprinted past his defender and finished across his body to the left corner of the goal to tie the game.
UCSB (6-3) heads north to kick-off the Blue-Green Rivalry with a designated non-conference matchup at Cal Poly this Sunday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. The game is available to view through BigWest.TV. An audio broadcast will also be available through KCSB and you can listen here.
