SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Looking to sustain momentum after a successful junior season, UC Santa Barbara senior forward Reed McKenna has parlayed his strong playmaking abilities into a place with the Portland Timber's U-23 team, a member of the prestigious Professional Development League, the top amateur level of the American soccer system.

McKenna has appeared in all five of the Timbers' matches since making his debut on Jun. 12 following the conclusion of the UCSB school year. He has tallied one goal so far for the club. Having recorded a record of just 1-4-2 through the first seven matches of competition, Portland is an undefeated 3-0-2 since McKenna joined the MLS affililate.

McKenna's lone goal came on Jun. 28 in a home match against the Kitsap Pumas, a 45th minute equalizer in an eventual 2-1 Portland win.

"I've gained a lot from playing PDL with the Timbers this summer, said McKenna. "I've been fortunate enough to not only get some games under my belt with the U-23s but also jump into some of the first team training sessions, which provides a great measuring stick for where I'd like to be. I feel confident and well prepared for this upcoming season and am excited to return to UCSB soon!"

Playing in the Northwest Division of the PDL, Portland has accrued a 4-4-4 record so far this summer. The squad has two regular season games remaining for 2014, a Jul. 11 matchup against Lane United FC and a campaign-closing contest against the Washington Crossfire on Jul. 14.

The Timbers' official website can be found here.

McKenna was one of just six Gauchos to make 20 or more appearances in the 2013 season, tallying one goal and one assist for three points. The speedster was mainly deployed on the right wing, though he saw time centrally as well. He ranked fifth on the team and first among reserves with 20 shots.

This season, he will be relied upon for experience as the sole upperclassman forward on the team's roster. The San Diego, Calif. native is a veteran of 36 NCAA matches with UCSB and UCLA.
