SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team will be making a pair of public appearances at Santa Barbara-area parades this summer as part of an ongoing initiative to give back the community that has helped turn Harder Stadium into "Soccer Heaven."
The Gauchos will be marching in both the annual Fourth of July Parade and the Fiesta Historical Parade, scheduled for early August.
"We always feel that it is important to be one with the community around us," said UCSB head coach Tim Vom Steeg. "The Central Coast has become a real hotbed for soccer and the enthusiasm showed by the local community is a huge part of that. They have given so much to us as a program over the years so we try and give back as much as possible."
The Fourth of July Parade will take place at 1:00 p.m. on State Street, with post-parade activities being held on the 400 and 500 blocks of State.
This year's Fiesta Parade is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1 at 12:00 p.m. It will commence at the corner of Cabrillo and Castillo streets, moving east onto State Street and ending on the corner of State and Sola streets.
Once the 2014 season kicks off on Aug. 23, the Gauchos will offer even more community involvement, including the opportunity for AYSO teams to play games on Meredith Field at halftime of UCSB games, the always-popular Ball Boys program, Gauchos Give Game Nights, and the Gaucho Guest Coaching Program.
Season tickets for the 2014 season, including exciting home games against challenging opponents UCLA, Cal Poly, Northwestern, and Cal State Northridge, are now available!
