2013: McNeely had a superlative first season with the Gauchos, setting freshman program records in goals against average (0.83) and minutes (1,836) while tying the mark for appearances (19) and finishing just short in shutouts (six, record is 7), goals against (17, record is 16) and save percentage (.770, record is .787) ... Named Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7 after shutting out UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton the previous weekend ... Started the final 18 games of the season after platooning with Austin Mansker at the outset of the season ... Pitched three straight shutouts between Sep. 29 and Oct. 6 ... Made a season-high six saves against Penn on Sep. 15, including a highlight reel stop on a Quakers breakaway in the 65th minute ... Ranked No. 45 by Top Drawer Soccer in the website's final freshman player rankings ... Received a pair of postseason honors, being named the Big West Freshman of the Year by College Sports Madness and being named to the Big West All-Freshman Team.
Played for the Los Angeles Galaxy Academy and the US Soccer Development Academy…He has trained with the West Bromwich Academy in Birmingham, England, was invited to the U17 US National Team residency program and is a past member of the U18 Academy Select team…was the starter for the 2011 US Soccer Academy National Championship Team.
Attended Calabasas High School and graduated in 2013 … Did not play high school soccer.
Joshua Grant McNeely was born on August 8, 1994 in Los Angeles, Calif. … Parents are Margaret and Joel McNeely … Has a younger sister, Claire … Has yet to declare his major … Aspires to be a professional soccer player … When he is not on the field, he enjoys hanging out with his friends and family, going to the beach, playing basketball or watching movies … Can’t do without his friends/ family, music and his computer … Prior to games, he listens to music, hydrates, focuses on the game, and visualizes himself making saves … Can best be described as “hard-working,” “laid back,” and a “good leader” … His most memorable sporting moment is winning the U16 U.S. Soccer Academy National Championship … Would like people to know that he “will do his best and give 100% in every game that he plays” … Would love to play with the U.S. National Team … Cheers for Arsenal and the Los Angeles Lakers … Favorite athlete is Tim Howard … Enjoys watching Inception and Breaking Bad.
