UCSB Ranked No. 23 in Soccer America Preseason Poll

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – In its annual preseason poll, Soccer America has tabbed the Gauchos at No. 23 in its top-25 rankings, it was revealed today.

The Gauchos, who have been ranked as high as No. 13 – by College Soccer News – in preseason polls, opened their season with a 3-0 exhibition win over the Westmont Warriors last Saturday night, holding the opposition to just one shot while receiving goals from Achille Campion, Paul Ehmann, and Andy Perez.

This week, UCSB will open the regular season with a pair of contests against Chicago-based schools. First up is Northwestern on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m., followed by an 11 a.m. matinee against University of Illinois, Chicago on Sunday morning.

The Gauchos return seven starters to a 2013 squad that has been picked to win the North Division by Big West coaches and to be the best team in the conference by national publications such as College Soccer News, College Sports Madness, and the NSCAA.

UCSB soccer boasts the best broadcast coverage of any men's soccer program in the country. All matches besides Sunday's contest will feature live video streaming, while Gerry Fall will provide radio coverage of every game on UCSBgauchos.com, with all Big West matches and selected non-conference games appearing on KZSB AM 1290 – Santa Barbara News-Press Radio.
