SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Goffin Boyoko, a French Youth National Team product and NAIA First Team All-American, has been added to the 2012 UC Santa Barbara men's soccer roster it was announced by head coach Tim Vom Steeg.
Boyoko comes to UCSB as a junior after spending two seasons playing for Auburn University Montgomery. While playing for the Warhawks, he garnered both 2011 NAIA First Team All-American honors and All-Southern States Athletic Conference First Team accolades. He scored 17 goals across 19 games as a sophomore, including eight game-winners. He also posted five assists. As a freshman, he tallied five goals and four assists in 12 appearances.
"He adds the one component that Luis Silva gave us last year, and that is the ability to give the ball to our attackers as well as score himself," Vom Steeg said.
The addition of Boyoko is the final step being taken to reload the Gaucho offense, which saw the scorers of 39 of last season's 51 goals matriculate to the professional ranks.
Boyoko, a native of Paris, France, competed with the French U16 National Team and has also competed for Premier Development League side, Chicago Fire.
"He has played at a very high level and that maturity and experience is very important after the loss of several players," Vom Steeg said. "His soccer background will be a very important intangible in the locker room and in big games."
Boyoko's big game experience will be particularly necessary as UCSB hosts a pair of FOX Soccer Channel televised games against UCLA (Sept. 21) and Cal Poly (Oct. 19).
The midfielder becomes the second French player to join the Gauchos, following fellow NAIA transfer, Achille Campion, who will also make his debut with UCSB this fall.
Boyoko will make his first appearance in the blue and gold when the Gauchos host their season-opening exhibition against Westmont on August 18 at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
