UCSB Signee Boateng Named California's Gatorade Player of the Year
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Cate High School star and future UCSB player Ema Boteng was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of California in boy's soccer after already garnering the D-7 MVP honor and myriad other awards.
Gatorade selected 20 winners from the winter to go along with 30 winners from the fall and will now pare the group down to a single national player of the year later this week.
Boateng made his case as California's top player with a season that included 32 goals and 19 assists as the Rams repeated as the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 champs and saw the midfielder tabbed as the D-7 MVP for the second straight year.
In his three years at Cate, Boateng amassed 79 goals and 49 assists. In addition to his prowess on the field, Boateng held a 3.75 GPA and spent much of his time away from the pitch volunteering for school-wide service projects.
Boateng signed a National Letter of Intent with UCSB in February and will join the Gauchos this fall.
