GKids: Little, Loud and Lucky
Wearing his favorite Gaucho gold GKid T-shirt from 2009, Andy was excited to see what his new 2011 Gkid shirt would look like.
Do you have a GKid?
GKids are "little but loud" and the luckiest kids in Santa Barbara. For $20, kids in 8th grade and younger receive an official GKids T-shirt which will get them free admission to every regular season Gaucho soccer, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball game.
If you haven't been to a Gaucho game in the last couple of seasons, you might be shocked to see how family friendly they are. Hundreds of cheering GKids fill the family section at Harder Stadium, aka Soccer Heaven, wearing their GKids shirts.
Before games and during halftime, a Soccer Town Playground has been created for older kids. The sidelines are lined with little Gaucho ball boys and girls and halftime mini-games feature local youth soccer players. After the matches, the Gaucho players greet the crowd and sign autographs.
On Saturday August 27th,, the men's and women's soccer players will team up to teach 3,000 youth soccer players at the 2nd annual AYSO Skills Day held at Girsh Park. Skills day will feature age-appropriate soccer stations for the kids and coach clinics for the soccer moms and dads.
Local youth soccer teams also have the chance to have their practices run by real Gaucho soccer players at Storke field through an ongoing community outreach program.
Our boys are very passionate about sports and they especially love their Gaucho games. They are so excited to get their new GKids shirts and I can't wait to hear them sing the Ole' song all the way to UCSB, throughout the game and then all the way back home again. It brings papa so much pride!
