SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Former UC Santa Barbara golfer Dan Buchner qualified for the PGA Tour School Finals. The Newport Beach, Calif. native graduated in the class of 1997 and was a four-year starter for the Gauchos. The former All-Big West player placed sixth in both the first and second stages of the tour qualifiers. The PGA Tour School Finals will be held Nov. 30 to Dec. 5 in Winter Gardens, Fla.
In the first stage of qualifying at the SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta, Calif., Buchner shot a 9-under par 275. In the second stage, at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., he shot a 4-under par 284.
Additionally, UCSB golf coach Steve Lass tied for 3rd with California State Amateur Champion, Don Dubois at the 15th SCGA Four-Ball Championship at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel, Calif. on Nov. 14-15. The winners of the championship were Brad Uptgraft and Tucker Brown. Lass and Dubois shot rounds of 68 and 66 to finish at 134.
Lass, in his 13th season as UCSB's golf coach, has been playing in tournaments for 37 years. The former Gaucho has also served for many years on the Southern California Golf Association Rating Committee and has won tournaments in five consecutive decades.
