PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Russell Boring shot a 4-over par 220 to lead the UC Santa Barbara golf team to an 11th-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational. Boring, a junior, had his best tournament of the year.
As a team, the Gauchos carded a 904, just two shots out of an eighth-place finish. Fresno State finished in 10th at 903, while St. Mary's and Memphis each shot 902 to tie for eighth.
While Boring was UCSB's top finisher, Tyler Weir shot an 11-over par 227, tying for 37th-place. Andrew Gunson and Glen Scher were close behind, recording 12-over par 228 and 13-over par 229 respectively. They finished tied for 42nd and tied for 48th. Kei Kita battled to a 24-over par 240 to finish in 85th-place.
While the Gauchos finished 11th out of 16 teams, they were within two shots of tying for eighth-place.
Nevada won the team title by carding a 5-over par 869. Oregon State finished second with a 9-over par 873.
The individual winner was Domingo Jojola of San Francisco who had a 7-under par 209 at the fabled course.
UCSB has completed its fall schedule. The Gauchos will return to the links, bunkers, traps, and water hazards on Feb. 1 when they play at the Anteater Invitational in Costa Mesa, Calif.
