Senior Jeff Wood shot a season-best 216 to lead UC Santa Barbara to a seventh-place finish at The Prestige golf tournament in Palm Desert.
Wood's 216 helped UCSB to post its team-best score of 875. His second-round score of 69 was one of three rounds of 69 shot by the Gauchos in the tournament. Senior Christian Helland also shot a second-round 69 and finished witha personal-best 219 to tie for 15th. Sophomore Brian Six finished tied for 41st, but he also shot a second-round 69. In fact, Santa Barbara's second round score of 278 was not only the team's best round of the event, it was easily its best of the year (by ten shots) and it was the best round shot by any team in the tournament.
Junior J.R. Becko shot 221 to finish tied for 22nd and sophomore Andrew Hoffer shot 227 to finish 59th, rounding out UCSB's golfers.
Northwestern won the tournament by shooting an 855, narrowly defeating Pepperdine (856) and Stanford (858).
The Prestige capped off the Fall portion of UCSB's schedule. The Gauchos will return to action on February 15-17 when they travel to The Taylor Made/Waikoloa Invitational in Hilo, Hawaii.
