Santa Barbara, Calif. -The UC Santa Barbara golf team continued its solid fall showing with a third place finish at the Real Del Mar Classic in Baja, California.
UCSB, led by senior Naoya Takemoto's sixth place finish and Jeff Wood's ninth-place finish, shot a three-round total of 893 to finish three shots behind second-place University of San Diego. The tournament was won by the host, San Diego State, which shot an impressive 874.
In the second round of the tournament, Takemoto shot a season-best 68. Not only was the 68 his best round of the year, it wa the best round by any Gaucho this year and it was the best single round of the entire tournament. With his sixth-place finish, Takemoto has now had three top-ten finishes in four fall tournaments. His 12-round average on the year is 72.83 shots.
Joining Takemoto in the top-ten for the second straight tournament was Wood, a junior, who shot 221 for his ninth-place finish. Wood finished in a tie for fourth at the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate on October 19.
Freshman Jeff Linklater shot a 226 in the tournament, finishing in a tie for 19th. In his four tournaments this season, Linklater has had three top-20 finishes.
The third-place finish as a team was UCSB's third top-three finish in its four tournaments this season.
The Gauchos return to action for the final time in the fall when they travel to Stockton on November 7-8 to take part in a tournament at Saddle Creek Golf Course.
