Gauchos in Sixth After Two Rounds at Big West Tournament

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara golf team is in sixth-place after the first two rounds of the 2011 Big West Men's Golf Tournament. UC Davis, holds even-par 576 through two rounds and leads the 2011 Big West Men's Golf Championship after the first day of action. All nine Big West teams are competing in the two-day event at Mission Viejo Country Club in Mission Viejo, Calif.

The Pacific Tigers posted a two-round score of 584 to place second while Cal Poly sits three strokes back with a 587 total. Cal State Northridge owns the fourth slot after carding 589 and is followed by UC Irvine at 600. The Gauchos (611) are sixth with Cal State Fullerton (615), UC Riverside (620) and Long Beach State (624) rounding out the field.

In the individual standings, UC Davis' Austin Graham shot two-under 70 in both rounds to lead all players. He finished the day with 10 birdies and one eagle.

Nick Delio vaulted to the second slot after firing a competitive course record 5-under 67 in the second round of the championship. He opened the two-day event with an even-par 72, giving him a two-day total of 141, one stroke off the lead.

Two strokes separate first through fifth place as Cal Poly teammates Geoff Gonzalez and Bryan Pierce and Cal State Northridge's Chris Russo find themselves knotted in third place after registering a two-round total of 142.

The third and final round of the 2011 Big West Men's Golf Championship tees off Tuesday, May 3 at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring of the event can be viewed at www.golfstat.com .

The 2011 Men's NCAA Regionals will be held at six sites, including the Omni in Tucson, Ariz., and The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., on May 19-21, with the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship slated for May 31-June 5 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
