Gauchos Climb Into Tenth-Place on Final Day of Wyoming Cowboy Classic

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Greg Wells shot a 216, Brian Six shot a 217 and Joey Ramos shot a final round 69 to lead the UC Santa Barbara golf team to a tenth-place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., Tuesday.

Wells, who shot a 69 in the first round of the tournament on Monday, capped off his 33rd-place finish with a final round 72. Six, who finished 38th, shot 74 or below in all three rounds. Ramos entered the third round ten-over par, but he shot a one-under par 69 to finish at 219 for the tournament. Teammate Nick Telliard also shot 219 to finish in a tie for 47th.

Michael Feuerstein shot a 220 to tie for 57th-place.

The tournament, held at Walking Stick-North in Scottsdale, was won by UCLA, which shot an 829 to defeat Drake University by 16 shots. The Gauchos topped Big West rival Cal Poly on the final day, 287-290, to edge the Mustangs by two shots and finish tenth. Cal Poly's Travis Bertoni, who won last week's Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by UCSB at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, won the individual honors at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, shooting a six-under par 204.
