UCSB Places in Top Ten at Western Intercollegiate

Santa Cruz-Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara golf team snuck into the top-ten of the Western Collegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course, posting team score of 70-over 910, 45 shots back of champion The University of Oregon.

Tyler Weir led the Gauchos with a 13-over 223, good enough for a 20th place tie. Weir bounced back from a second day 76 with a final round 74, the low round on the day for the Gauchos. Andrew Gunson finished four shots back at 227.

The University of Oregon captured its second tournament win of the season and Oregon State University junior Diego Velasquez finished first in the 93-player field.

Fresno State, which entered the final round with a four-stroke lead over Oregon, finished tied for second with Colorado at 873. Michigan State was fourth at 874 and California rounded out the top five teams in the 18-team field at 885.

UCSB's combined score marks the highest total for the Gauchos on the year. The team's average now climbs to a per-round total of 293.26.

UCSB will travel next week to Scottsdale, Ariz. to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Apr. 6 and Apr. 7.
