SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Led by a trio of players who rank 1-2-3, the University of Oregon leads the OGIO-Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Golf Tournament after two rounds. The Ducks lead the host UCSB by 19 shots, 561-580.
The tourney is being held at Sandpiper Golf Club, which is located just north of Santa Barbara and situated on the Pacific Coast. The Pacific Ocean borders several holes and the weather played to the script on Monday. It was perfectly clear and sunny.
Oregon players Jack Dukeminier and Robbie Ziegler are tied for the individual tournament lead. Both players shot 5-under par 139 in the first two rounds. Dukeminier checked-in with a 67 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second round while Ziegler was 3-under par in the first and 2-under par in the second. A third Duck, Daniel Miernicki, is one-shot off the lead at 140.
UCSB senior Andrew Gunson is one of a trio of players who sits at 1-under par 143 after the first two rounds. He is joined in a fourth-place tie by Long Beach State's Kevin Roy and Bhavik Patel of Fresno State.
Nic Booth of Southern Utah is the only other player to play at or under par through two rounds of the tournament. Booth is in seventh-place by himself after carding an even-par 144.
Gaucho senior Tyler Weir and Southern Utah's Jeff Evans are in a flat-footed tie for eighth at 1-over par 145. Weir recorded an even-par 72 and then a 1-over par in the first and second rounds respectively. Evans was just the opposite, going 1-over in the first and even in the second.
Third-place Fresno State trails UCSB by 12 shots and first-place Oregon by 31 shots. Long Beach State is in fourth, three shots back of Fresno State, 15 behind Santa Barbara and 34 behind Oregon. Pacific, Southern Utah State and San Jose State are in a fifth-place knot at 598, they trail the leader by 37 shots, the Gauchos by 18, Fresno by six and Long Beach by three.
The 16 teams will play the final round on Tuesday morning. The first group will tee-off at 8:00 a.m. The leaders, Oregon and UCSB, will start at approximately 9:00 a.m.
