Coto de Caza, Calif. - Naoya Takemoto shot a 219 over three rounds to finish in a fifth-place tie at the Spalding/Anteater Invitational at the Coto de Caza (North) Country Club Course in Coto de Caza.

Takemoto shot a first-round 73 and followed that up with a 75 in round two. On Tuesday, however, he closed the tourney by shooting at third-round score of 71, his best round of golf since he shot a 68 at the Taylor Made Intercollegiate in Hawaii on February 17.

Takemoto's fifth-place finish helped the Gauchos finish in the upper half of the tournament as they finished in a tie for tenth. The University of Washington won the tournament hosted by UC Irvne.

In addition to Takemoto's fifth-place finish, two Gaucho players Gavin Owen and Jeff Wood, logged scores of 230 to tie for 52nd place.

UCSB returns to action on April 3-4 in the Western Intercollegiate Championship at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz. The Western Intercollegiate is hosted by San Jose State.
