Jeff Wood Wins Oregon Duck Invitational, Gauchos Finish A Strong Seventh

Eugene, Oregon - Senior Jeff Wood shot a six-under par 210 to record the first individual victory of his UC Santa Barbara career, leading the Gauchos to a strong seventh-place finish at the Oregon Duck Invitational on Tuesday.

Wood, UCSB's top golfer, shot a 72 in the first round on Monday. In the second round, also played Monday, the native of Fortuna, California, shot a personal-best five-under par 67, pulling into second-place, one shot behind Oregon's Aaron Byers. In Tuesday's final round, however, Wood continued his sizzling play, shooting a one-under par 71 to finish at 210. Byers, on the other hand, struggled, finishing with a 76, four shots back of Wood.

Colorado State's Martin Laird, who entered the third round two shots back of Wood, shot a 72, finishing with a 213, three shots off the pace. San Diego State's John Lepak tied with Byers for third place at 214.

As a team, the Gauchos shot a three-round 889, finishing in seventh-place, 18 shots back of tournament winner San Diego State. UCSB also finished one shot out of sixth-place, five back of fifth and eight back of fourth.

In addition to Wood, Gaucho Jeff Greenfield shot a solid 223 to tie for 23rd. Christian Helland recorded a 228 to tie for 49th, Scott Linklater shot 235 to tie for 72nd and J.R. Becko scored 236 to tie for 75th, rounding out the UCSB field.

The Gauchos return to action when they travel to the Western Intercollegiate Invitational on April 2nd and 3rd at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz.
