Senior Jeff Wood shot a 74 in the third round and finished with a three-round total of 231, to lead the UC Santa Barbara golf team to a 17th-place finish at the Taylor Made/Wailoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Wood's 74 in the final round allowed him to bounce back from a second round of 80 at tournament that was plagued by extremely windy conditions. As a team, the Gauchos shot a 939, one shot back of Oregon State and two shots behind Hawaii and Rhode Island.
After a slow start, sophomore Andrew Hoffer used a third-round 69 to finish in a tie for 61st with a score of 236. Scott Linklater tied for 67th at 237, Jeff Linklater finished tied for 80th at 239 and Leigh Silver finished 107th with a 247.
The tournament was won by the University of Texas, which shot a 37-over par 893. Arizona State finished second at 899, followed by TCU at 900.
UCSB returns to action on March 5-6 when it hosts the Bite/Pacfic Coast Intercollegiate at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc.
