ELK GROVE, Calif. - Brandon Bauman recorded a 3-under par 213 to tie for second-place and lead UC Santa Barbara to a third-place finish at the Sacramento State Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove, Calif. It was the Gauchos fourth top-4 finish this season.
Bauman carded a 1-over par 73 in the final round for his highest finish of the season. Willy Moffly and Matt Moomjian tied for 15th at 8-over par, Zach Smith tied for 19th at 10-over par and Brett Bennett rounded out the UCSB competitors tying for 25th at 12-over par.
Bauman, the defending Big West Conference Player of the Year, shot a 5-under par 67 in Monday's second round and led the tournament entering the final round. He was also 1-over par in Monday's first round. Bauman tied Grand Canyon's Vinnie Murphy for second-place. GCU's Billy Comeaux won the tournament a 4-under par.
As a team, the Gauchos entered the final round in second-place but ultimately finished five shots behind Cal State Fullerton. The Titans fired a 286 in the final round as compared to UCSB's 295. Grand Canyon led the tournament from wire-to-wire, winning by 12 shots over Fullerton, 17 over Santa Barbara and 23 over Sacramento State.
The Gauchos are now off for a month. They will return to action on April 10-11 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. The tournament will be played at the Whirlwind Country Club.
