Gauchos Jump to 6th-Place After Two Rounds at Big West Championships

SAN LUIS OBISPO,Calif. - Hunter Robinson shot a 2-under par 68 in the second round to help UC Santa Barbara jump from eighth-place to sixth-place with one round to go at the Big West Men's Golf Championships at the San Luis Obispo Country Club on Monday.The Gauchos have a two-round score of 590.

Robinson, who won the OGIO-UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate in his last outing, had to battle back from a subpar first roiund in which he was 11-over par. His 68 in the second round tied UC Irvine's Peter Fernandez for low round of the day. Fernandez is tied for the individual tournament lead. Robinson is tied for 24th at 9-over par.

Freshman Brandon Bauman and sophomore Mike Smith are the Gauchos' top two players after two rounds. Bauman, who shot a 3-over par 73 in the first round, carded a 5-over par second round and will enter Tuesday's final round at 8-over par, tied for 17th. Smith's scores were exactly opposite of Bauman as he shot a 75 on Sunday and a 73 on Tuesday

Freshman Zach Smith, Mike's brother, was 2-over par for the day and is 11-over par for the tournament, tied for 30th. Another freshman, Willy Moffly, is tied for 40th at 16-over.

UC Davis leads the team competition at 573, two shots ahead of UC Irvine (575) and UC Riverside (575). Cal Poly is fourth at 585, followed by Long Beach State at 587 and then UCSB. Cal State Fullerton is seventh at 596.

Riverside's David Gazzolo is tied with UCI's Fernandez for the individual lead at 1-over par, 141.

The final round will begin at 7:25 on Tuesday morning.
