LAKESIDE, Calif. - Three UC Santa Barbara golfers shot under par in the third and final round of the Barona Collegiate Classic on Tuesday and the Gauchos finished in an 11th-place in the tournament held at the Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, Calif.
Freshman Willy Moffly led the trio of under-par players on Tuesday with a 3-under par 69, the lowest round by any UCSB player in the tournament. Zach Smith carded a 2-under par 70 and Hunter Robinson shot a 1-under par 71. Overall, Smith was the top Gaucho finisher as he recorded a 1-over par 217 to tie for 27th. Will Strauss completed his three rounds at 2-over par 218, tying for 29th, while Moffly shot a 4-over par 220 to tie for 40th.
Robinson (11-over par 227, tied for 62nd) and Mike Smith (14-over par 2320, tied for 69th) rounded out the UCSB five.
The winner of the team title was the host, San Diego State. The Aztecs were 31-under par to finish 12 shots ahead of San Diego and 20 better than Sacramento State. Xander Schauffele of SDSU carded a 17-under par 199 to defeat his teammate Nahum mendoza III by three shots.
The Gauchos return to action at the Folino Invitational at the Industry Hills Golf Course on Feb. 16-17.
