SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Jordan Epstein and Derek Trofimczuk finished among the top-35 to help UC Santa Barbara to a 13th-place finish at the prestigious Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Talking Stick North Course in Scottsdale on Tuesday. The Gauchos shot 872 for the three rounds.
Epstein was consistent throughout the three rounds and finished at 5-over par 215, good for 32nd-place. In his three rounds, he shot 71, 72 and 72. Trofimczuk carded a 6-over par 216 to tie for 35th-place. His 2-under par 68 in the first round was the best round recorded by a Gaucho in the tournament.
Glen Scher completed his 54 holes with a 10-over par 220, tying him for 59th. Brett Silvernail (11-over par 221) tied for 63rd and Hunter Robinson (16-over par 226) tied for 85th, rounding out the UCSB five.
The team title in the tournament was claimed by Oklahoma, which recorded an 831, seven shots ahead of Colorado and BYU and 18 ahead of Utah. UC Davis was the highest Big West Conference finisher at 857, 26 shots off the pace and good for fifth-place.
The individual medalist honors went to the Sooners' Michael Gellerman who carded a 6-under par 204. Cole Ogden of BYU and David Oraee of Colorado tied for second at 5-under par.
UCSB will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, April 13-15, when it hosts the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate at Sandpiper Golf Course in Santa Barbara. The 10-team tournament will get underway on Monday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
