WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Glen Scher and Brett Silvernail finished among the top-13 individuals to lead UC Santa Barbara to a sixth-place tie in a strong field at the North Ranch Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Tuesday.
Scher finished alone in ninth with a 6-over par 219 while Silvernail tied for 13th with 9-over par 222. As a team, the Gauchos shot n 895, tying with Arizona State for sixth. The team winner, USC, topped second-place BYU by nine shots. Pepperdine was third, Liberty fourth and San Diego State fifth.
UCSB was the top Big West finisher at the tournament. The next league school was UC Irvine, which finished seven shots back.
The individual title at the North Ranch Intercollegiate was won by Yi Keun Chang of USC who shot a 2-under par 211 to edge BYU's Zachary Blair by one shot. Chase Marinell of Liberty was the only other player in the field to finish at or under par. He was even-par and finished third. USC's Sam Smith entered the final round leading a 6-under par, but he carded an 80 in the final round to drop into a fourth-place tie at 3-over par.
UCSB returns to the course at the Lexus Fresno Classic at the Belmont Country Club in Fresno on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 3-4.
