SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior Russell Boring has been named Big West Golfer of the Month for October, the league announced Friday.

Boring, a native of Westlake Village and graduate of Agoura High School, had a pair of top-10 finishes in the Gauchos only fall action.

In UCSB's season-opening tournament at the Wolf Pack Classic in Stateline Nev., Boring shot a 5-over par 221 to finish in 10th-place out of 81 players.  His score included a 1-under par first round.  In his second tournament of the year, Boring finished in fifth-place at the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Course in Simi Valley.  He finished with a 5-under par 211 with his best round coming in the second when he was 3-under par.

"Russell played consistently well in both tournaments," said UCSB head coach Steve Lass.  "It is an honor well-deserved."

The Gauchos are off until February when they will play in the Folino Invitational at the Industry Hills Golf Club from Feb. 19-21.
