Scher Struggles on First Day of NCAA West Regional
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara sophomore Glen Scher, representing the school as an individual at the 2011 NCAA Golf Regional in San Diego, struggled on the first day of competition as he shot an 11-over par 83, tying him for 73rd place.
Scher had his problems on the tough Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. USC's Jeff Kang leads the tournament through 18 holes with a 6-under par 66, two shots ahead of Dylan Frittelli of Texas and Steve Lim, also of USC.
The Trojans lead the team competition at 10-under par, nine shots ahead of UCLA and Texas.
Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio, the Big West Player of the Year, is the top individual player through one round at 2-under par. He stands tied for seventh.
The event will continue on Friday with the second round teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
