SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara men's basketball home opener against San Diego State - originally scheduled for Saturday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. - has been moved to 3:00 p.m. on the same day, Athletic Director Gary Cunningham announced today.
The time change was made to avoid a time conflict with Saturday night's NCAA men's soccer quarterfinal playoff match between UCSB and Virginia Commonwealth, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Harder Stadium.
Two promotions will take place in conjunction with the men's basketball time change and the NCAA soccer match. For every soccer ticket purchased, fans will receive a free ticket to the Gaucho men's basketball home opener. The promotion applies only to in-person and telephone purchases, but the buyer must have her or his soccer ticket to present at the basketball game. Tickets for both events are available Wednesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at UCSB's Athletic Ticket Office in Robertson Gymnasium. Tickets for men's soccer will also be available at the Thunderdome ticket office from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening, and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
"We are excited about the opportunity to host a men's soccer playoff match this week," Cunningham said. "We worked with Coach (Bob) Williams and the staff at San Diego State to make the time-change a reality, giving our fans the opportunity to attend both events."
In addition to the ticket promotion, UCSB Parking and Transportation Services will once again be accepting canned food items in place of the traditional $2.00 parking fee at all four athletic events this weekend. The promotion will be in effect at the Gaucho women's basketball games on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Purdue, and Sunday at1:00 p.m. against Oregon State, as well as the men's basketball and soccer matches.
