Devine Becomes Second Consecutive Gaucho to Earn Big West Player of the Week Honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara junior forward Chris Devine has been selected Big West Player of the Week after leading the Gaucho men's basketball team to road victories at Montana State and UNLV, the Big West announced Monday. Devine is the second consecutive UCSB player to earn the award, joining Alex Harris who was honored last week.
The 6-foot-8 native of Eagle River, Alaska, averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as the Gauchos improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 1994-95 season. He also shot 69.6% for the week.
On Nov. 13 at Montana State, Devine scored 12 points and had five rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. He made 6-of-8 shots and scored eight of UCSB's first 10 points as the Gauchos raced out to a decisive 19-1 lead en route to an 88-56 win.
On Friday night, Devine tied his career-high with 25 points, making 10-of-15 shots overall, including his first three-pointer of the season. He also had six rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot as the Gauchos defeated UNLV, 79-76. It was UCSB's first win in Las Vegas since January of 1988.
On the season, Devine is averaging 17.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. He is shooting 59.0% from the field and 66.7% from the free throw line. A Second Team All-Big West choice following the 2005-06 season, was selected to the Preseason All-Big West Team this year.
The 3-0 Gauchos will travel to Pepperdine on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. game.
