Men's Basketball Picked To Win Big West By Media & Coaches

The UC Santa Barbara men's basketball team was selected to win the 2002-03 Big West title by both the league's coaches and the media, it was announced Wednesday at the league's annual Media Day.
The Gauchos, who won their first Big West Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, return four starters from a team that went 20-11. UCSB received six first-place votes from the coaches, totaling 77 points. Utah State received three first-place votes and a total of 73 points, while UC Irvine had one first-place vote and 69 points.
Additionally, for the first time ever, the Big West media selected a Preseason All-Conference Team and a pair of Gauchos were named. Mark Hull, a First Team All-Big West choice last season and Branduinn Fullove, a Second Team All-Big West selection last year, were both selected to the six-player team. UCSB was the only team with more than one represetative.

The Gauchos open the exhibition season on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. against Team Ezybonds, an Australian Club Team.
