SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara will host Montana State in an ESPNU BracketBuster game. The Gauchos will play the Bobcats on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome.
UCSB is currently 8-12 overall and 2-6 in the Big West Conference. Montana State enters the week with an overall record of 9-9 and a Big Sky Conference mark of 3-4.
The Gauchos and Bobcats have played eight times in a series that dates back to 1972. The last time the teams met was on Nov. 24, 2007, when UCSB recorded a 76-61 victory in Santa Barbara.
The meeting with Montana State will be UCSB's fifth as part of the BracktBuster series. The Gauchos played Detroit in the inaugural event in 2003, losing 75-59. In 2006, they traveled to San Jose State and won, 76-72. In 2007, Santa Barbara hosted, and lost to Eastern Washington by a score of 71-70. Last year, UCSB lost at Utah State, 72-59.
Other Big West schools participating in ESPNU BacketBuster games include; Green Bay at Long Beach State (Televised), South Dakota State at Cal Poly, Fresno State at UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton at New Mexico State, Cal State Northridge at Idaho, Pacific at University of San Diego, UC Irvine at Hawaii, UC Riverside at San Jose State.
The Gauchos will return the trip to Montana State in 2009-10.
