SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Chris Devine scored 19 points and had four assists to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 76-53 basketball victory over Portland on Wednesday night.
The Gauchos (5-5) made nine of 21 shots from beyond the 3-point line and shot 54.7 percent overall as they raised their home record to 5-0.
The Pilots (5-8) lost their fifth straight road game despite 17 points apiece from Marcus Lewis and Pooh Jeter.
Lewis also had a leading 12 rebounds as Portland outrebounded Santa Barbara 38-32. The Pilots were held to just 31.7 percent shooting.
Portland jumped out to a 13-11 lead in the first seven minutes of the game as Jeter hit a pair of 3-pointers.
The Gauchos' Cecil Brown hit three 3-pointers of his own during those minutes to keep the game close. He scored 16 for the night.
After the opening minutes, the Gauchos began to pull away, aided by Joe See's two 3-pointers, and held a 40-27 lead at halftime.
