TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Jake Muhleisen had 13 of his 15 points in the second half as Nebraska rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat UC Santa Barbara 60-57 Friday night.
The game was the first of the ASU/azcentral.com Hoops Classic. Bucknell played Arizona State later.
Muhleisen also blocked a shot by Jacoby Atako with 27 seconds to play to preserve the Cornhuskers' three-point lead.
The Gauchos attempted two 3-pointers in the final five seconds. The second one, by Nick Jones, was short and Nebraska's Andrew Drevo grabbed it.
Drevo had 13 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and a career-high four blocks, and Jason Dourisseau scored seven of his nine points in the final 8:48 for Nebraska (5-4).
Branduinn Fullove had 18 points and Mark Hull 13 for UCSB (3-6), which lost its fourth straight. All 13 of Hull's points came in the first half as the Gauchos could muster just 17 points in the second half.
The Gauchos led 46-35 after a layup by Fullove 3:32 into the second half. But Muhleisen had two 3-pointers and a layup during a 12-0 surge that sent Nebraska to a 47-46 lead with 10:53 remaining.
No more than one point separated the teams until Atako scored the last of his 10 points on two free throws, opening a 54-51 UCSB lead.
But Fullove twisted his right knee on the play, and Dourisseau tied it with a 3-pointer, Drevo hit a 14-footer and Muhleisen made a layup to open a 58-54 lead with 1:51 to go.
Fullove had 14 points in the first half, making four straight baskets,
including two 3-pointers in a 3:18 span before Hull's 3-pointer with 50 seconds
to go opened a 50-40 halftime lead.
UCSB will take on Bucknell, a first round loser to Arizona State, on Saturday night at 5:00 p.m.
