UC Santa Barbara Falls In Second Round Of Big West Tournament

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Ralphy Holmes had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Bobby Brown scored 16 points as Cal State Fullerton beat UC Santa Barbara 66-55 Thursday in the second round of the Big West Conference tournament.

The third-seeded Titans (19-9) will play No. 2 seed Utah State in Friday's semifinals.

Holmes, who was voted only second-team All-Big West despite being first in the conference in rebounds and second in scoring, finished the first half with a spinning, 18-foot bank shot at the buzzer to give Fullerton its biggest lead of the half, 35-24.

UC Santa Barbara (11-18) could get no closer than six in the second half.

The seventh-seeded Gauchos were eliminated in the second round of the tournament for the third straight year.

Josh Davis led UC Santa Barbara with 15 points and Chrismen Oliver had 14.

Brown, who scored 10 of his points in the second half, made a long 3-pointer to give the Titans their biggest lead of the game, 64-50, with 6:04 to play.

Yaphett King and Jamaal Brown added 11 points apiece for Cal State Fullerton. King also had 11 rebounds.
