SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Nick Jones scored all 16 of his points in the first half as UC Santa Barbara ran away early to a 67-51 victory over UC Irvine Saturday night.
With the win the Gauchos (12-4, 15-12 Big West Conference) took a one half-game lead over the Anteaters (12-5, 18-8) for first place in the Big West with two games remaining.
Jones scored seven of Santa Barbara's first 10 points. He made 6-of-7 shots in the first half, including both of his three-point attempts.
The Gauchos led 17-4 after 12 minutes, holding Irvine to just 2-for-17 shooting. The Anteaters shot 29.8 percent overall.
Jordan Harris got UC Irvine within eight, 24-16, while scoring a team-high 15 points.
But Mark Hull's 3-pointer put UC Santa Barbara's lead back into double-digits for good. Hull scored 13 points.
Branduinn Fullove, held scoreless over the first 18 minutes, scored the first four of his 15 points just before halftime. He also led the Gauchos with eight rebounds and six assists.
