Josh Davis added 15 points for the Gauchos, (9-14, 6-8) who had lost six of seven coming into the game.
UC Santa Barbara shot 55 percent from the field and outrebounded Cal Poly 35-27.
With four games to play, the Gauchos are in sixth place in the Big West and are not yet assured a spot in the conference tournament, which takes the top eight teams.
Cal Poly got a career-high 24 points from senior Mike Titchenal and a career-high 20 from Glenn Jones, but it wasn't enough for the Mustangs (4-19, 2-12 Big West), who lost for the 13th time in 14 games.
The Mustangs made eight 3-pointers but only one other field goal in the first half. They remain in last place in the Big West.
UC Santa Barbara has beaten Cal Poly in 14 of their last 16 meetings.
